River Restoration Project to Start in 2012
The Bitterroot River B&B has been accepting slightly-used Christmas trees which will be used in the construction of brush rolls, also called facines, that will be at the base of the reconstructed river bank. The technique is called bioengineering, and uses natural materials and native plants to stabilize the bank. We have joined with our two adjacent landowners to develop this project, and we have hired Russel Fox of Ridge to River Restoration as our consultant. The illustrations show how the project will proceed.

The brush rolls are tied together with heavy jute twine.
The brush rolls forms the first layer of the river bank restoration.
Next, natural soil is placed in layers with geotextile fabric and thousands of willow cuttings. The resulting river bank is chock full of roots from the willows, which prevents erosion. Other native plant species will be planted as well. We are really looking forward to the successful completion of this project and we are expecting lots of community volunteer involvement.

Lewis and Clark Room
The Lewis and Clark Room is our most versatile and perhaps our most popular room. This room is the only one we have that can be set up with two nice single beds, or one comfortable King-sized bed. With a fantastic view of the Bitterroot River and a fish in the sink, it is especially popular with our fishing guests. If you decide to reserve the Lewis and Clark Room, please let us know how you would like to have it set up.  If we know well ahead of time, we can have it all ready to go for you when you arrive. Otherwise, we will be contacting you to determine your preferences, or you may have to wait a bit while we change it over for you.

On-line Reservations
FAQ

Hints about making reservations

Some folks have needed help, so here are the answers to the most Frequently Asked Questions:

1. When you enter the dates you wish to reserve, the system will immediately show your dates as unavailable.  Don't panic! That just means that, at the moment you have requested the dates, the dates are available to no-one but you. As you continue throught the steps, you will see that you can reserve the dates and receive a confirmation.
2. If you request a range of dates and/or multiple dates for multiple rooms, and one of the dates or rooms is unavailable during the requested time period, the whole reservation will show as unavailable. In other words a room may be available for 3 out of 4 days requested, but it will show as unavailable for your request, because the entire request is not available.
3. Sometimes we have cancellations. If you have checked availability and not found the room you wanted, please check back later or give us a call.  We often receive cancellations that could possibly free up the dates you are looking for. Please call if you have any questions at all.  We will be happy to step you through the process over the phone or we will gladly make the reservation for you.

EAT and DRINK in Stevensville

Your favorite Inkeeper, Shelley, enjoying a Porter at the Blacksmith Brewery in Stevi.

There are several great eateries in the area including a Mexican Restaurant, several great Italian Restaurants, Steakhouses and Pizzerias. Don't forget to visit our friendly local microbrewery, Blacksmith Brewing, for some of the best Porter around and a pretty darn good IPA as well. Come to think of it, all of their beers are excellent. Maybe you should try them all!

Travellers for Open Lands

You may have noticed the literature and donation envelopes placed aroud the B&B. Last year, the Bitterroot River Bed and Breakfast became a charter member in this new conservation program. It is a program that we believe in and it will help to preserve the aspects of Montana that we all love the most; the amazing open mountain vistas, the unbelievable fishing and the access that we all have to recreate in beautiful Montana. Please check out this video and ask about how you can participate when you visit us next. It's easy and no donation amount is too small.
